Microsoft Works 8.5

Microsoft Works 8.5 will no longer work using Vista. Is anyone having the
same problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem still
exists. When I try to do formula's and if I try to do a page setup, it
tells me the problem will no longer work. Any help appreciated

When you ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Adviser,
you did run it, didn't you ?
It tells you in the tasks list that Works 8 series will
not work with Vista, 'visit the vendors site for possible
solutions'. Sorry, there isn't any.

You are not alone if that's any consolation.

LoneWolf:
With the beta builds there was a conflict with Works 8.0, installing
the Works update cured the conflict. The Works update updated Works to 8.5.
With the RTM build Works 8.0 installs without conflicts as well as the
update to 8.5. Have a great day.

Thanks for the info. The OP says he IS using 8.5
& it doesn't work. It doesn't work on my Enterprise
version either. Fortunately I have Office Pro 2003 to
fall back on. (forget office 2007, awful !)

LoneWolf:
If you installed Office2007 beta, Works won't function. During the
installation of Office2007 beta files are added to Program files (x86),
Microsoft Works that corrupt Works. To cure that problem uninstall Works
through add/remove programs then empty or delete the Program files (x86),
Microsoft Works folder. Install Works. This problem isn't present with
Office2007 RTM.

You are missing the point here.

Bobdar is saying his Works 8.5 won't work
with his version of Vista . I'm saying it
won't work on my Enterprise version either.
I have never installed Office 2007 beta, but instead
got the RTM (invite from MS) version and installed it on drive D,
far away from C drive Works 8.5. Didn't like it so
removed it.
Still, Works (version 8.5) WON'T work on Bodar's Vista
& my Enterprise Vista.

With Works 8.5 working on my systems and not working on others has
to have something to do with me installing Works 8.0 then upgrading to Works
8.5. I don't have a Works 8.5 disk to find out what the difference is after
installation and find a possible solution.

Unless you had a separate operating system on D, the Registry on C would
have been changed when you installed RTM to D.

A funny thing, I installed Microsoft Works Suite and all of the works
programs work fine. I was getting ready to throw the suite away but
something told me to save it.
Microsoft Works 8.5 will still not work.

FWIW, I just set up a new HP with VISTA Home Premium and Works 8.5 pre
loaded. Most of WOrks doesn't with particular challenges in using
spreadsheets and databases. After many hours with HP techs a couple of
system restores I final was informed that WORKS and VISTA have a
"compatability" problem. According to HP, Microsoft is supposed to be
working on a patch to solve the problem but I can get no ETA for it to be
done.

Hi Dennis,

I have this same problem and after reading your post, I think the trouble
may be caused by the fact that an Office 2007 trail issue is also installed
on my brand new system. I'd like to follow your advice, but if I uninstall
MS Works, how do I get it back? I don't have a CD, it just came loaded on my
computer. Any advice would help. Thanks.

I just got a new computer with Vista 32-bit home premium on it. It came with
Works 8.5 on it. I did a spread sheet for work on it and save. everything
worked fine. Then 2 days later they hooked my internet up and then everything
went to crap. Vista started down loading updates. When it was all over my
nothing would work right on spread sheets...no printing...no changes...no
nothing !!

I was having same problems with printing and formating(even though I am not a
regular user of spreadsheets)and found somewhere that you need to make the
microsoft printer doc. writer the default and then you can make changes and
when you print it has you save the doc as a xps. file and then you open that
up and print to your other printer. It is a big pain in the arse.

Recently bought Gateway GT5465E with Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
installed. Also contained Microsoft Works 8.5. Database seems to work with
Works 7.0 files, and Spreadsheet at least reads my old files (Works 3.0).
But Word Processor won't open my Works 3.0 files (*.wps). However, my Works
7.0 (Windows XP) can open and work with the Works 3.0 .wps files just fine.
Then if I Save a Works 3.0 file with Works 7.0, my Works 8.5 Word Processor
can read that just fine. SO ... most of mine work, but some still have
problems.

Hi, vsmith.

"Everything"? Including Google?

As said so often here, "Google is your friend!" ;^}

Google for "'works 8'+vista" produces over 200,000 hits. The first two look
very promising:

I can't open any works documents. I have tried everything.
so you tried uninstalling works, reinstalling works, uninstalling your OS,
reinstalling your OS, and nothing works? Well, we are stumped then. You
said you tried everything so there is nothing left.
