Microsoft Works 2000 stops working

I try to access word processor but get an error message -"works cannot access
one or more files it needs to run the Word Processor. The files may have been
renamed, deleted, or moved. Try reinstalling Works, and then starting the
program again."

I cannot un-install Works, getting the same error message. So far the only
way I have cured this problem is to format the hard drive. I'd like to find
out why this happens and an easier way to correct it.

Nothing new has been installed and there are no viruses.

Generally you would simply reinstall works, but the issue could be related
to your other post
For any Works probs you should post to a Works group, not a winxp group

It could be a failing hard drive.. Try a diagnostic program to see if
sectors are bad. Go to the manufacturer's site for the hard drive and
find their diagnostic program.

It is not a failing hard drive. Any more suggestions?

Did you try the Repair button under Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs,
MS Works, Microsoft Works, Remove?

Also try running

SFC /SCANNOW

...from a Command Prompt. That seldom works anymore though, if you've
installed SP3..

If you can't uninstall Works normally, you might be able to with Revo
Uninstaller. If that uninstaller succeeds, reboot, and then reinstall
Works again.

I don't understand what formatting the hard drive has to do with this
problem, but whatever (more below).

I tried repair, uninstall and new install, none works. It is just the word
processor that doesn't work, database, calendar and spreadsheet do work.
It is not a failing hard drive or malware.
Formating the drive eliminates the Works folder and allows the installation
of a new fresh copy that will work properly.

Revo Uninstaller ain't for the faint of heart - or for folks who
aren't sure what they're doing.
