I seem to be having a problem opening any files that I recieve in my email that are attatched in Microsoft word format . I have MicrosoftOffice 2003 with Word in it so I should be able to open the files. I am new to the Vista so am not sure how to fix this problem. It tells me to create an association in the Set Associations control panel and I do not know how to go about doing that.
Please help.

Depending if the attached Word file was sent in the new Word format which Word 2003
cannot read without the Word Viewer.

Download the Word Viewer from Office download site and that should solve your
problem

What is the suffix of the word file received?

A lot of users have the computer set to "hide extensions for known file types" and would have no idea what a 'suffix' is.
The the original poster. What three or four letter follow the period in the file name of the attached document.

If the file extension of that Word document is .docx, it is the
newer Word 2007 format. You can download a free converter
for your Word 2003:

If the received attachment is the older .doc format, use this fix:
