IHello,
I'm an IT for the Navy and i work at our help desk. I got a call today
asking me some questions about microsoft word I couldnt answer. I was hoping
I could find the answer in here. I wanted to know how to edit the Dictionary
in Microsoft Word 2000. My edit button is shaded when I get all the way into
options after the spell check. Ok lets see if i can explain this. The
customer typed in a word incorrectly and when he did the spell check instead
of correcting the word through the options given by the program he added the
word to his dictionary. Know if you select options in the spell check
portion you go to a new menu that allows you to add to your dictionary but
the edit button is shaded. My questions is why is it shaded and how would I
go about editing after i've already added an incorrect word?

I'm not sure why the Edit button would be grayed out. That is the
"right" way to do it
(http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/EditCustomDic.htm). But there's
another way...

Use Windows Explorer to go to the folder C:\Documents and
Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof. (You may have
to go into Tools > Folder Options > View and select the option to show
hidden files and folders, as Application Data is hidden.) The file
named Custom.dic is an ordinary text file, and you can edit it with
Notepad to remove the misspelled word.
