microsoft Word stopped working and does not load

I have had micrsoft word 2000 working for a long time and all of a sudden
when I go to open from the icon is starts to load and then sends out an error
message and stops. This is the only program where this happens and I tried
reinstalling it and that did not work. Fix it tool in wroks did not work
either
