Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000

I have been using a MS Laser Mouse 8000 with Vista for some time now with no
problems other than very occasionally the mouse is not detected during boot
and I have had to re-start.

The problem I now have is that with the Bluetooth transmitter plugged into
the USB windows will not boot past the 'blue screen' - if I remove the
transmitter and install cable mouse everything boots normally.

So far I have tried the following:-

Deleted and re-installed mouse software
Hit F8 at boot and repaired start up
Tried different USB ports for the transmitter
Windows is current with all updates

Ocassionally windows will boot with the laser mouse and when it does
everything works perfectly.

Any ideas anyone?
