Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 v2.0 features do not work

I have a Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 v2.0 (and mouse).

Sometimes it work OK and sometime some of the special buttons do not work.
For example, the two volume control buttons will not control the volume.
In fact that whole series of buttons and the ones to the left of the
keyboard stop working.

I do not know what determines when they work and when they don't.

When they don't I try deleting the driver ands rebooting.

That has worked but not always.

Got any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it/

Thank in advance

have you got a Vista computer? If you have then do the the relevant website
for the keyboard and make sure you have the latest drivers. I have had
similar problems and this solved it.

Have you tried going to the Keyboard Options in Contrl Panel that launches
the IntelliType software, and check the options as far as the button
functions go? Perhaps update to the latest version of IntelliType from the
Microsoft site?

Thanks I had done both those things.
I've since learned that it works OK plugged into the front USB but not when
plugged into the back ones.

At least for 3 tests in each port.

thanks
