Recently, I have been receiviing e-mails to purchase
various items including:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional 2002
$50
Retail price: $270.99
Our Low Price: $50
You Save: $220

I am very concerned about such offers. These programs
could easily be laden with viruses and other threats. I
wanted to make sure you were aware of this.

It's highly likely those email spam offers are bogus. When an offer
seems so ridiculously low, ignore the offer. You could end up making
a $50 donation without receiving the goods or the goods could be
pirated, illegal software.

Most likely these are pirated copies stolen from a volume license, often
referred to as a "Corporate Edition". The pirate buys a volume license
of 5 or more licenses (assuming they bought anything at all). A volume
license is supposed to use all of its licenses within the same
organization but these unscrupulous sellers (who usually feign
ignorance) then sell of each license separately.

Best if you report the piracy to Microsoft to target this pirating scum.

You most likely do not need to worry about virus, but the three companies
that are selling those are all based in East Europe and they are OEM copies
for Packard Bell and other systems. Most likely you could not load the OEM
software and you sure would not get any support at all. So....most likely
not the worlds best deal in the long run.
