Microsoft Windows XP Professional 2002
retail price $270.95
Get it for $39.53

Any time a price is too good to be true, something *has* to be
wrong. No way that can be legit.

Greetings --

No, it's not likely to be "legit." The most obvious clue, besides
the too-good-to-be-true pricing, found in the FAQ, is: "The software
is shipped from Eastern Europe."

NO! OEM software is only for distribution with hardware.

That's not entirely true. If I build custom computers and want to
install XP for my customers, I can buy all the OEM XP CDs I want.
Once installed on the particular system, that CD/Key becomes "locked"
to that machine and can't be redistributed. That's a big difference
from me not being able to "buy" the CD.

You must not install very many, because what you said is completely false,
no cd/key is "locked" to any machine.

Actually, he is 100% correct.
As has been said in this group many, many times, when you install an OEM
version of Windows that copy of Windows, meaning that cd key, can never be
installed on another computer. This has been discussed nearly to death. You
must not spend very much time reading the newsgroups.

That applies to main makers who have facilities to lock an installation
to the particular BIOS on the motherboard. It does *not* apply to the
semi-retail OEM Cds such as Nobody Man is talking of buying in bulk

Your saying it is not against the eula now to install an OEM copy on another
machine?
When was this change made?

Are you sure about this, Alex? I know you can physically move the non
preinstalled OEM versions, but isn't this prohibited by the EULA?

Greetings --

Since the word "lock" was in quotes, I took Nobodyman's post to
mean that the license was permanently bound to the initial PC, which,
as we know, is correct. I don't think Nobodyman was talking
BIOS-locking, but rather he chose an unfortunate turn of phrase.

Looking again, I think you are right. I had taken it to mean he was
saying that OEM versions are always locked in that sense. The matter of
subsequent transfer is a licensing one and is prohibited in Microsoft's
intended sense of he license, whichever variant is used

Some OEM versions are truly BIOS locked! BIOS locked versions can only be
re-installed on the same motherboard version/same machine type.

Y.
