Well I have a problem that has come up and I have no idea why or how to fix
it..

Here is what I see I try to install windows updates and when I try to
shutdown WinXP :

Runtime Error
Program C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.
Please contact the applications's support team for more information.

How is this problem fixed?

I think your installer is corrupted (windows one), so try to download the
latest windows installer from the link below but read these links before:
