I have a cd of microsoft virtual machine that came with
my compaq pc, I no longer have the compaq pc but have a
new gateway pc.
Can I download the virtual machine cd without creating
any problems with the gateway.
I am running IE sp2.
Thanks

If you have a machine with XP SP2 then you more than likely have the
MS VM installed but why would you want that proprietary piece of
rubbish when the sun VM works much better and is standards compliant
(well more so anyway)

Microsoft VM is not included in SP-2 and has not been available from
Microsoft for quite some time.
It is highly unlikely the new gateway has Microsoft VM.
It is getting more likely all the time that users do not have it:

Doing a slipstream of SP2 with a Windows XP SP1 (not SP1a) CD WILL leave
you with MSJVM, but you are right. It is definetly not included with
SP2 and will not be installed by SP2. I do recommend going with Sun's
Java, but there are updated versions of MSJVM if you really must.
