Microsoft Update issues

I've had some issues running Microsoft Update on a few of my w2k sp4 servers
as well as win xp workstations. In some cases the scan will start and never
complete. I've let the scan run all day about 8 hours and in other cases
I'll get a n error 0X8DDD0009. Has anyone expierenced this sort of issue and
how can I resolve it.

Hello George,

Try this one, open services.msc stop automatic update service. Go to c:\windows
rename softwaredistribution to whatever, start automatic update service.
It will rebuild the softwaredistribution folder and everything you need for
updating. If everything goes fine delete the old renamed folder.

Best regards

I encountered a strange issue. The automatic update service has a issue
stopping unless I restrat the server. Any idea on what would cause this?
This happens everytime I need to stop automatic updates unless I reboot.
