Microsoft to start phasing out its NNTP newsgroups

I just downloaded and installed the bridge but it takes a bit to finally get
it to work
at this rate I would rather do it through the web browser
doesn't show this newsgroup- only for now shows 23 forum/newgroups

The Bridge won't fully work until all the groups are moved to the Web UI [sic]

This was known for some time MS would do this, it has met with some chagrin
but, such is progress.

I for one, will *not* be viewing MS News on the Web as much as I now can under
my subscribed groups using Outlook Express, as I do (this one.)

Why will I not visit as much, MS whacks you with a *trans pixel gif file* when you login.
Automatically datamining you, no thanks.

The MS Alum community (that would include me) are viewing this move with some
scepticism.

Anyhow, enough said, I think, it's done or doing and we have to take our Apples.

I wanted to test it out and see what it was like,
I do not like it either and would prefer to just use the web forums
but I will really miss this group of people and also this particular
newsgroup including the windows update newsgroup

Via a credible source !

From your link:
"I see Microsoft's move away from NNTP as yet more evidence of the growing
social-networking emphasis across the company. Anyone going to miss the old
forums (besides trolls and spammers)?"

Yes.

I guess it's probably time to retire W2K as well. ;-)

Actually, Bob, I had not seen that in that perspective, MS does seem to be making
a push to social-stuff in a big way. And why not ? There's billions at stake they might
as well take a stab at before Google does.

I would think so, isn't Win 2K beyond the support window ?
That would be Win 2K SP4 ?

Appreciate the comments ! Bob, you aught to drop by more often.

Surely not yet. My mother-in-law is still using it, and will continue to do
so unless her machine dies before she does--not impossible--she's 94, I
forget how old the machine is, but its no spring chicken.

When it was new, "legacy free" was a new buzzword, and I bought it for that
"feature." It served her well--the lack of parallel and ps/2 connectors has
meant that she can plug things in herself without as much handholding as
might have been needed otherwise.
