Microsoft Spyware And McAfee

P

Peter J. Ingram.

I am wondering if anybody has encountered this problem or can help. There
appears to be a big problem in installing The Spyware Beta on a Windows XP
SP2 system that is using McAfee Security Centre as the choice of Internet
Security. Installation is fine and as it should be and the initial use is
also fine. The problem occurs after re-boot everything goes wrong...the only
way to get through this that I have found was to reinstall the operating
system, a bit drastic I am sure you will agree. Is there a way around this
where both Mcafee and Microsoft Spyware Utility can co-habit on the same
system.

Let me see if I can read between the lines here:

You have an xpsp2 machine with McAfee security installed. You installed the
Microsoft Antispyware application, updated it, and scanned your machine.
You then told it to remove everything found, which it did, prompting you for
a reboot.

this is what happened. You removed Sporder.dll which is a Microsoft file,
installed as part of the McAfee package

This breaks the Winsock LSP list or stack--not sure which is the correct
term.

This can be fixed by going to a command prompt and typing

netsh winsock reset

hitting enter, and restarting.

How McAfee would react to all that, I don't know, but it would need to be
reinstalled.
