Microsoft Side Winder Joy Stick

Hi. I am having a problem trying to install this joy stick which I was using on a Windows 98 computer. I have since purchased a new computer with Windows XP, and won't allow me to install this item. The message I get is " Sidewinder Game Device software 3.X installs drivers that are not incompatable with this version of windows". Then another message states " A limitation exists with your computer resources or configuration. Setup cannot install Sidewinder Game Controller on your current operating system". Thanking You In Advance.

I'm not a computor whizz kid or anything like that but I do remember that
you can change xp to run programs or hardware on older versions of windows.
Not sure how you do it but it can be done.. Hope this helps you..

When sending your message to multiple newsgroups, please crosspost (list the
multiple newsgroups in the Newsgroups: header when you compose your
message). That way any replies to your post appear in all the newsgroups
you posted to. We respondents don't end up wasting our time providing
answers that have already been profferred by other respondents. And you and
we get to see the entire thread no matter in which newsgroup the replies got
posted.

Already answered in microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers.

MS has not made XP drivers for their older Sidewinder products.
Use or buy the usb adapter. They work better. Buying a new joy stick is
really your best bet. Jym

Yeah, it is shitty to see the same post in multiple newsgroups but which are
independent so there are many replies but you can't see them altogether in
whichever newsgroup you happen to see that thread. You end up wasting your
time posting the same answer as someone else already posted in another
newsgroup for the same post.

Of course, I have to wonder about the value of a me-too chime in response
that says, "I heard it can be done but don't know it and so I can't tell you
anything". My guess is that maybe you were talking about compatibility
mode, but that's just a guess since you didn't know what you meant, either.
The Sidewinder program won't install, so you cannot then use compatibility
mode on a not-yet-installed program. While you may not get the auxiliary
Sidewinder software installed, you can use the embedded Sidewinder drivers
that are in Windows XP (as mentioned in my reply to this thread but in
another newsgroup but which cannot be seen here because the OP was not
crossposted).
