Microsoft Shared Library Installer

Two things promted me to post theis question.

My specs are: Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed.

It started with the installation of SystemWorks 2005. While installing this
app, I got an en error uninstalling my prevous version of SystemWorks 2004
Professional. I searched Symantec knowledge base and got the instruction of
how manually unistall previous version. I followed the instruction, but went
further and searched for all the instances of Symantec or Norton and trashed
it from the registry.

Now during installation of SystemWorks it hangs on Microsoft Shared Library
Installer. It doesn't go any further and gives me installation failed error.
I couldn't find anymore answers on Symantec site. I'm thinking there is
something went wrong with Windows, which brings me to the reason number two.

My windows update doesn't work anymore either. It did work before.

Anyone can provide some clue on where to look for these answers.

I tried to reinstall windows, but got the message, you are installing the
wrong version of windows. Now I can't even do that???

Looks like you "trashed" too much from the registry. Never mess around
in there without a backup. ERUNT is a good program for backing up the
registry: http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/

Have you tried system restore to a date before you messed up the registry?

On the repair install you are trying to do it with a version of XP less
than XP2 hence the message. The way around that is one of two ways:
uninstall SP2, do the repair install, then reinstall SP2, or better yet
make an installation CD slipstreamed with SP2. This will allow a repair
of your current installation. Here is one set of directions on how to
do the slipstream:

Lastly if you would rather remove SP2, which I would suggest you don't:

Correction. That should be SP2 not XP2.
