Will it work with spyware blaster, winpatrol, spybot search and destroy and

cyrus the virus

I forgot to mention that I have AVG free 8.5 version anti virus software and
I will install the Microsoft Essentials in its place. Should I wait for it to
be out of Beta or should I install it now?

Uninstalling existing antivirus or antispyware programs before installing
Microsoft Security Essentials

If you use more than one antivirus or antispyware program at the same time,
your computer may suffer from decreased performance, become unstable, or
restart unexpectedly. Before you install Microsoft Security Essentials, you
should disable or uninstall other security-related programs.

Caution:
When you remove your currently installed Internet security programs, your
computer is in an unprotected state. If you have problems installing
Microsoft Security Essentials after removing existing Internet security
programs, please contact Microsoft Security Essentials Support by submitting
a by submitting a case online.

To uninstall an existing antivirus or antispyware program
In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.

-or-

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, click Start, and in the Start Search box,
type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.

In the list of installed programs, uninstall any third-party Internet
security programs.

Restart your computer, and then try to install Microsoft Security Essentials
again.

Note:
Some Internet security applications do not uninstall completely. You may
need to download and run a cleanup utility for your previous security
application in order for it to be completely removed.

If you use another antispyware program with Microsoft Security Essentials,
we recommend that you turn off real-time scanning in the other program. For
more information, see the antispyware program documentation.

Important:
If your antivirus program is disabled or if you don't have one installed,
you should follow these guidelines:

Don't download or open files from sources that you don't trust.

Don't visit websites that you don't trust.

Don't open e-mail attachments from contacts you don’t trust.

Good luck cyrus.

I would install it now in place of AVG. In the recent AV Comparatives
testing, Microsoft's engine did far better than AVG did.

I agree with engel- you should only install it on a computer that you really
do not care what happens to it

I disagree with you bill
on xp it still has problems
and in windows 7 the timing is off
and it is taking hours to do a full scan (as others have reported)
I am doing a full scan now on xp with a 40gig hd
it started at 10:15am and is still going
I would not put it on a fully functioning computer until it comes out of
beta

it is 12:07 and it is still doing a full scan from 10:15 and it is 3/4 done
this is a 40gig hd with hardly anything installed since it is basically a
test computer
I believe I have 10 programs on it- tops
no documents and no pictures
but it is fully ms patched

so far it is working with spywareblaster and superantispyware
I do not have spybot s&d on my computers- I do not like recently how it has
been performing
it took 2 1/2 hours to do a full scan on a 40gig hd

but so far besides the quirkyness in xp running with windows live- it is
holding its own
robin

R

robinb

yes
btw I did the scan prior to installing superantispyware
but I might have found a bug
I will see tomorrow when it does another scan
when superantispyware does its scan- MSE real time protection is shutting
off
this only happened when superantispyware did a scan
I have superantispyware set to do a scan every day
I will see what happens tomorrow when I do not do it manually

Your slow scan may be due to a conflict with superantispyware, which I
believe includes real time protection from spwyare.

R

robinb

nope
because I did the scan prior to installing superantispyware pro on that
machine

stephen did you see the post I put about the problems with windows live and
installing mse on xp?
so many in the beta forum are having the same problem.

I did and I've got an XP machine with the same symptoms. :)
I haven't touched it yet to analyze the cause.
I didn't have a chance to spend much time in the getting started forum
yesterday - perhaps a bit more time today.

you should since your specialty is windows live
microsoft is aware of the problem but it would be nice if they created a fix
now instead of waiting till the final is done, this way we can test it again
to see if it is actually fixed.

It will probably be fixed before the final. I believe that a reg patch
will be made available soon.
