As we know from independent sources, Microsoft is busy
[0]readying Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. They have published on their
website a [1]changelist document (link goes to TechNet download page)
detailing the nature of the security-related fixes and updates. The
document is targeted towards XP admins and covers some interesting things
such as the new Internet Explorer Pop-up Manager and various security
policy changes. Some other juicy tidbits from the document: Internet
Connection Firewall will be enabled by default, and there will be new
support for something called "Execution Protection" which allows
developers to make use of the NX (no execute) page guard flag on Intel's
Itanium and newer AMD processors. An interesting read."

Doesn't matter. The time will be displayed in your local time on your
machine. If his time is off it will display off on your end. He posted at 10
pm and it displays as 11pm on my end telling me his clock or time zone is
off. If his clock is right, his post time will match my local time on my
machine.

While the security fixes are important, I'm hoping that SP2 also fixes many
of the functionality bugs in XP, such as a virtually-unusable/undependable
search utility.

I shouldn't have to depend on a third-party free program, such as Agent
Ransack, to ensure I am finding files -- and the contents of files -- that I
am looking for, and that I am unable to locate by using the native XP
Windows Explorer.

And, please, please. let's hope the talented MS techhie gurus manage to get
rid of the ~ file that appears on the desktop each time that I edit or
update my OE address book.

Don't know where I saw it (probably an OE NG), but there is a fix for this.

to you on a silver platter) could, oh I don't know....go to google.com or
msdn.microsoft.com or an OE newsgroup and perhaps....ummmm....search for it
yourself?

Oh. yes, and you could even say something like "Thanks. I thought I was
stuck with this behavior, but now I can get off my butt and locate the fix
you mention and have my problem solved.

I'm sorry that I don't have the actual reference for you, but there IS
indeed a fix for this.

Explorer is a very bad file manager.
There are other problems besides.
Even with all the options unchecked, some folders are not visible.
Actually, I don't use Explorer anymore because it LIES about folder
contents.

IF IE was showing something else than the real content of a web page,
people would be furious that MS was screwing up the content of a page.
But nobody seems to be annoyed by the fact that Explorer shows
another "reality" of their disk. I can't trust a program which
deliberately lies and MS will not prevent me to see what's going
on with my data. I'm speaking about index.dat files, for instance.

I quit Explorer a long time ago and I use Total Commander, the best

Oh, and by the way, it took about 45 seconds to locate this using Google:

And anyone who got my information that there IS indeed a fix for this would
have only needed to spend those 45 seconds on Google to find their answer.
This IS helpful information.
