microsoft photo editor disable

Every time I double click a photo microsoft photo editor opens showing the
pic.
I've changed dozens of times even in my favourite photo viewer selecting
associations but MS Photo Editor always comes back...

How do I permanently set all my photo files to open with my desired app?

Right-click the image, and choose open-with. Select your programs and choose
"always open..." option.

The problem now is the icon shown is a general one.. can I change it?

You should be able to change the icon via Folder Options, File Types dialog.
Have you tried it?

I did and works but icons won't show... is there a general icon horrible
how do I change that too?
