Why do I need an MSM passport? What does it do, and what
is it for?

I wasn't able to register my Windows XP and product key,
after I set up my new computer, because I wasn't on the
internet until after I'd set it up. I chose the
option, "register later". Will it remind me, or is there
a way I can register whenever I want?

Greetings Paul,

In order to log into Messenger, you need a .NET Passport, which you can use to login to a
number of Microsoft properties and other sites supporting Passport (like eBay).

Assuming you've activated Windows, the other part of the registration is completely optional.
If you wish to do the optional registration again, simply click Start, then Run, type
"regwiz.exe /r" (don't include the quotes) and click OK.
