Microsoft Outlook Express

C

-charles-

I am having a problem with Outlook Express (O.E.) When I am running Firefox,
I cannot use O.E. When I click on the icon, it opens then closes as soon as
the center pane starts to fill. I don't have this problem with IE-7. But it
takes forever to open and load.
I have a Win XP Pro system with all current updates. There have been no
major changes to the system. I have run McAfee and ZoneAlarm plus some
registry repair & cleaners without improvement. A reboot is required if I use
Firefox then close it. However my system is getting more cranky every day. I
occasionally get messages from ZoneAlarm ectreme security.
HELP !!!

Don't know what of McAfee you have installed. That is a company name,
not a product name. Could be you installed their Internet suite product
so it overlaps with functions provided by ZoneAlarm. What happens after
you uninstall ZoneAlarm?

I too use OE on my XP Pro system daily along with Firefox but with no
problems.
Like already mentioned, it might be time to temporarily disable or remove
either McAfee and Zone Alarm and see how things run.

At the worst you may have some spyware or virus that was not caught by your
existing protection. That's why I occasionally run one or two checkers that
run directly from boot CD's that are not the same programs that I normally
use for protection.

Running any Registry Cleaner is not a good idea. It can cause major issues.
All Registry Cleaner Tools are snake oil remedies. They do not speed up your
computer nor will it give you more space and it will not fix any keys or subkeys
that are incorrect. This could be the case of your issue with OE

You probably shot yourself in the foot using those Registry cleaners. If
you think your Registry needs to be "cleaned" or "repaired," read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

1. See http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx; then see...

2a. http://www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx and/or...

2b. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program
Access and Defaults | Click on the downward-pointing arrows to the right of
the configuration that's already checked | Email: Select "Outlook Express"
here (not "Use my current...").

Right, go and read the biased information written by the same small
group of egoes and closed minds that keep repeating the misinformation
over and over. These/those supposed MVPs are what some would call a
wart on the ass of progress and a re-defining of the words they use to
their own visions, such as they are.

Hmm, a supposed MVP site which, before you even get to its Main Page,
strongly suggests and instructs you to make IE your default browser. As
though people are not to make their own decisions or use other browsers.
Mmm, speaking on decisions, that smacks a bit of our cross-post maker
when the OPs don't cross-post to their liking. Rather than suggest the
OP cross-post, they just PUSH them over, whether they wanted that or
not.

And this one finishes it off by instructing the surfer to make mods to
be certain clicking an IE link will open OE, and NOT the mail
client/reader/etc. of their choice. Guess the "author" just figures
it's too bad if someone wants other than IE or OE so in typical fashion
attempts to PUSH the susceptible back to them.

This is worth making complaints about and I believe I will.
