Microsoft Outlook 2002 Error (0x80042108)

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending and Receiving' reported error
(0x80042108):
'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

I don't have this problem in Outlook Express, only in Outlook 2002. I didn't
have that error, in Outlook 97.

I think it is the facility, of multidownloading from several accounts, at
the same time, from different e-mail
servers, that make the problem. If I only take from the accounts regarding 1
server, I don't have that problem.

NOTE: All Patches are Applied, including SP2. I'm Running Microsoft Office
XP Developer, on a Win98SE machine.

Do you several accounts on the same server? Outlook will try to download
from all accounts simultaneously, so it may be trying to make multiple
connections to a particular server. We've found that some ISPs limit you to
only a single connection and will refuse subsequent connections, which may
be the problem you're having. Outlook 2003 will only try to make a single
connection to any given server, which might fix your problem. In Outlook
2002, your only options would be to Send/Receive for some of your accounts
separately.

Outlook will make a connection to the server for each account, so if you
have multiple accounts pointing at the same server it will try to make
multiple connections to that server. If you can't get the server
administrator to allow multiple connections to the server (and you probably
can't), you'll need to send/receive separately for each account that points
at a given server.

No, it's considerably more code than we'll generally put in a service pack
unless it's to fix a *very* serious problem that affects a *lot* of people.
Any time you go into a shipping product and make a change this large you
risk creating more bugs than you fix, so something like this will generally
not be backported.
