Outlook 2003 - Error S&R Mail

Hi all,

Unfortunately I am receiving the following error message when carrying out a
send and receive in O2K3.


Task 'Pipex - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

Any ideas what this actually means ?

I've tested my firewall etc but to no avail.

Fancy that I've fixed my own problem !

It would seem that a recent security update for xp meddles with your
firewall and blocks port 110.

When I tested my firewall I only disbled it, so, therefore I think it must
have still been running !

Oh well, cheers Microsoft I've only wasted twenty minutes today !

Any ideas what this actually means ?

It means what it says. Outlook is trying to contact your ISP's POP server
using the settings you specified (username/password, server name, server
port, and connection security) and it can't. somthing isn't specified
correctly in those settings. Verify them all against the settings your ISP
has given you.
