When this computer was bought, no microsoft office came with it (Word, exel
ect. and we find this hard to believe because all computer owners ive asked
said their computer came with office. Is there a way i can get it without
having to go down to a computer shop and buy it?

Try Open office, it is very good and the cost is great. How about
free.

The Windows operating systems have never included
Microsoft Office unless it was specified and paid for
inclusion. The only way to obtain Microsoft Office
is to purchase and install it.

I wouldn't say that all computers come with Microsoft Office. Mine didn't
come with it and I've seen many others that didn't. Some come with
Microsoft Works which will do some of the same functions. Microsoft
Office is a retail software package and can't be obtained legally without
buying it. There is a free package called OpenOffice that will serve much
the same function.

You should have ordered Microsoft Office when you purchased the computer.
Now you have to buy it separately.

Whether you order it with the computer or buy it separately, either way you
have to pay for it. Usually it costs less when you order it with the
computer.

I would say the reverse-the last 4 computers I have bought were supplied
without MS Office. The reason is that packaging Office with a machine is now
expensive relative to the profit margin made on the sale of a machine. As
for getting hold of a copy without buying it, well I'm not going to tell you
how to get a pirated copy which I suspect is what you want to know-instead
here are some legal ways 1) Look on e-Bay You will probably pay half retail
price 2) Buy a secondhand PC at an auction or computer fair 3) Sign up for
the Microsoft Partnership program then for £200/$300 you receive almost all
current MS business software. However your best alternative is completely
free go to http://www.openoffice.org/ and download Sun Open Office. Its
thoughtt by many to be just as good, and is file format compatible with MS
Office. Hope that helps

Many posts suggest Open Office. I'd suggest Star Office. Then there is
EasyOffice.

Most of these stand in the shadow of a worldwide success called
Microsoft Office and try to emulate as best they can IMO.

Some OEMs come with Microsoft Office as a 60 day trial. Is it these
perhaps your colleagues, acquaintances and friends have?

Microsoft Works must be one of the most under-rated suites on the planet
IMO.

OEMs often bolster the purchase with additionalities in the form of OEM
software. Some of these are great.

As for ebay: IMO give it a body swerve. Quite a lot depends upon the
continent you are based. ebay USA seems to observe good practice but
IMO ebay UK is a great way to get a pirated copy.

There are some other sites where a downloaded purchase of an "OEM
version" is a great way to give your credit details to an organization
possibly involved in identity theft.

Police in my home city are advertising the dangers of buying pirated
DVDs on the grounds that it is (usually) strongly associated with
criminality in the form of organized prostitution, organized people
smuggling, terrorism and illegal drug provision.

You pays your money you makes your choice?

Ordinarily I would have pointed you in the direction of Microsoft, but given
all the Microsoft sycophants and apologists in this group and elsewhere, I'm
going to offer you the link below as an alternative consideration, if you so
choose.

That's the difference! You choosing with whom to spend your hard earned cash
with.

The above offer is not exclusive nor limited to any other alternatives there
may be or you desire.

Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

You'll either need to go to a store that sells computer software, or
purchase it from a reputable on-line vendor, such as Newegg, CDW, or
Amazon. Don't try to buy it on eBay; the chances of getting ripped off
there are significant.
