Microsoft Office Word Help

When I click on Tools the dialog box disappears along with my instructions.
I have Vista and this was a great feature for the instructions to stay on my
screen while I followed them now they disappear. How can I get the
instructions to stay put?
 
Using the mouse, drag the task pane to the desired location (left, right,
top, or bottom) until it docks to the document window.
