Microsoft Office Trial

Hello, About a year ago, I received a Sony Vaio as a gift. It came with MS
Office 2003 Professional Edition preinstalled. Normally, the MS Office comes
preinstalled as a trial edition, so the gift giver must have purchased the
full version at some point. I would like to repartition my c and d drive to
add more space to my c drive. I am afraid that when I perform the
repartition, my MS Office will be reinstalled as a trial edition, and I will
be forced to re-purchase MS Office. Is my concern legitimate? Is there a
way to avoid this? Thank you so much.

Geez, explain how you stretched from someone buying you something from the
store and giving it to you to somehow the original purchaser ever having to
buy some software that was on it. You never mentioned WHAT was the
condition of the computer when it was gifted to you. The purchaser or prior
owner didn't have to do anything regarding the software. Maybe they didn't
use it so they could care less about some expiring demo version.

Depends on what you really have regarding an installation CD for Windows.
Could be just a drive image so you get exactly what Sony gave you when the
product was bought. If it is an installation CD, you probably get to pick
what to install. Go read the manual. If it is an image, you get everything
in that image. That certainly doesn't stop you from going into Add/Remove
Programs to uninstall Office.

Use "Partition Magic" to resize your C drive. It is always better to back
up first, but PM worked for me on a Sony Vaio without destroying any of the
programs or files. I made D drive smaller and then increased the size of
the C drive without loosing any programs or data on two Sony Vaio computers.
The price of Partition Magic is well worth it.

I know that many "knowledgeable users" like a small C drive with programs
and data on the D partition, but I think it is stupid of Sony to setup a
computer for the general public like that. Most users don't know how to
install onto the D drive and end up with the C drive full and the computer
non-functional.

Thanks for the advice regarding Partition Magic. As a general user with
minimal computer skills, I have little use for a c and d partition, and the
very problem that you have described is what I am facing. I was hesitant to
try PM since the disk partition software that is part of Windows XP does not
seem to allow you to extend the C drive. If PM worked for your Vaio, it
might for mine as well. --David
