microsoft office synchronizing folders freezes up the computer

I reformatted my computer and loaded office 2003 professional. It operted
fine. I downloaded the office updates, sp 1 and 2 and others and now I have
sent hundreds of messages to microsoft, at their request, as outlook tells me
it must shut down. It freezes the computer by "Microsoft Office is
synchronizing folders". What can I do.......................

Sure did, no help. Synchronizing Folders is new for 2003 outlook. I get two
or three outlooks running at one time, also freezes up.

When I freeze up I ctl alt delete and in the windows task manager I might
have 2 or 3 outlooks running. As I stated, everything went well when I
reformatted, after the updates it went to heck in a handbag. Seriously, I
have probably sent several hunderd error messages to microsoft. The errors
occur then I double click to open a file in outlook. Synchronizing doesn't
let me open outlook.

Hi, I have this problem but i only have 1 outlook running. outlook 2003 was
working fine until yesterday, when it started 'synchronising folders' and
hanging when i send emails. I have not opted to work offline at any time and
have tried using microsoft help, but all the check boxes they direct me to
are not in the locations they give, e.g. untick work offline.
did you guys resolve this?
please help. thanks.

I have a similar problem with Outlook (Office 2003)

Several times a day it goes into 'synchronizing Folders" mode and although
the PC does not freeze, Outlook wont send or receive emails during this sync
process.

Unfortunately it can take 10 min or more.

I dont actually sync my folders with anything except doing a download of
emails every 2 min.

How do I turn the sync featuer off?

I have recently been having the same problem but with some help from my
friends I believe I have figured it out. I have a program called
SpySweeper on my computer and when my computer was doing this strange
synchronization I checked the task manager to see which program was
currently being processed and to my surprise it wasn't Outlook at all
it was SpySweeper. I disabled this program and haven't had one
occurance of synchronizing folders since! Thank goodness because I was
about to throw the computer out the window if I didn't figure this out
as it would literally freeze the computer up for 10 minutes and would
seem to do this about every 20-30 minutes...very frustrating.

Well, I hope this helps someone else out there so they can love their
computer again!!!

Cheers!

Hi all, I have the same problem as everyone else. I am using outlook 2007
and when it starts to "synchronizing folders" it slows my computer to almost
a stop. Once Outlook starts to "synchronize" it will last for HOURS!
Yestersay it did this for over 28 HOURS! I was going to see how long it
would take for the operation to finish. I am using Norton anti-virus. But I
don't think that is the problem. I have been using Norton for over a year,
this started about a month ago. I have looked online for solutions and
scoured MS websites for help. I have checked ht etask manager and only one
Outlook is running. I am not connecting to any outside server (other then my
e mail accounts). I really have no idea of what it is synchronizing. PLEASE
if someone finds a solution to this problem let me in on it. Thanks..

So how many mail did you received in that time? ;-)
Disable this mail scanner integration of Norton (I believe you have to
uninstall it) and try it again.
Also make sure you don't set your automatic send/receive interval too short.
For 1 account don't set it less than 5 minutes (10 minutes is recommended)
and 10 or higher for when you have multiple accounts. This way you prevent
that a new cycle starts before the previous has finished and you'll get
stuck in an infinite send/receive loop.

Steve,

I have had ther same intermittent problem for a couple of months now. One
solution that helped for a week or so and then didn't work was to right click
on each Outlook folder and select Properties and uncheck the box
'automatically generate Microsoft Exchange view". It is a bit tedious.

I had a joyful week but the problem returned and is still with me in Office
2007.

I am not on a network just me and my computer.

Has anyone any further ideas please?
