Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders

Hi there,

I use Outlook 2003 on many machines but have had a problem with my main
workstation whereby when sending emails nothing seems to happen for a while
and a 'new' icon pops up in the tooltray informing me that Microsoft Office
Outlook is synchronizing folders.

This *I think* happened around the time I installed Avast! Antivirus and
Microsoft updates and I have been too busy/lazy(!) to pursue it further.

It is annoying and it seems the bigger the attachment the longer the delay
in sending.

I have also seen this same behaviour on another PC now.

Most of the Google hits mention Exchange Server and/or Office 2007 but I am
using XP Pro, Office 2003 and POP3 - no Exchange Server - for email.

Has anyone else come across this problem and more importantly does anyone
have a fix please?

Thanks for the reply Roady,

I did stumble over your website and that particular article when I was
researching the problem a little while ago...great resource - thanks.

I use Avast exclusively on my network now - finally got rid of Norton after
many years and many ignored emails...

I did pose the question over on the Avast forums but did not see a response
in the last couple of weeks.

It should be easy to disable the Avast Outlook module so Ill give that a go
when I get some time.

Thanks & regards,
