Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 does not display animated graphics?

M

Because it is not designed to.

Why does Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 not display animated graphics?

Because of a security issue or two with animated gifs. There is no way to
view an animated gif from within Outlook. You can save the gif out and open
it in ie, or you can 'view email in web browser' from the message window.

Go to Internet Options -> Advanced and check if animation is enabled or
disabled under the Multimedia settings group.

Some anti-spam and popup blockers will kill the animation. They may
show a placeholder image or just show the first image in the slide show
within the .gif file.

Is the .gif file actually animated when you double-click on the file on
your hard drive?

Err, Vanguard, I'm about 99.9% sure that Animated GIFs won't work within
Outlook 2007 whatever you do.

Yet I've seen articles written by Microsoft saying how to insert
animated GIFs into e-mails.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320314/en-us

Mentions Outlook 2007 in the list of "Applies to" programs. It doesn't
mention GIF animation is not supported in Outlook.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP011496781033.aspx

Mentions playing the GIF but in a preview window.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102014391033.aspx?pid=CH100776981033

Mentions that the animation will not be shown in the *body* of the
e-mail, only the first image stored inside.

So it appears the animation can be seen but not in the body of the
message when using Outlook 2007. However, if IE is configured to not
show animation then I wonder if it would show even in the
preview/properties window.

FH (gotta talk to you about that name, dude) is correct. They never will since Word is the engine for Outlook 2007 and animated .gifs are not supported in Word.

We need everyone to begin accessing this link and voting so that
Microsoft knows that enough people wants this feature back!

This link will let you vote that you find that having animated GIF's
as part of Outlook 2007 is a function we do need. If enough people
vote maybe microsoft will listen and re-activate the feature.

As discussed above Outlook 2007 uses word 2007 as the html editor, and
that causes the GIF's and flash to not animate. I agree with the
posting that we should be able to decide that....

M

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

No, Microsoft decides that as the program belongs to them, not you.

That's a pretty obsurd attitude you have there Milly... LOL! The program may
belong to them but if the features in the program are not in the application,
who many people will still use it? It's a supply and demand issue like
everything else is. If MS wants to shove that down peoples throats and not
listen to what its customers want, then so be it. let them own it and use it
themselves. People use applications because it does what the need and/or
want within it. Remove that feature from it, and the people go somewhere
else, find something else to use.

I for one, and I guess I'm in the majority do NOT want "animated"
emails..... and don't forget, the VAST majority of Outlook installations are
in corporate environments where they CERTAINLY don't want "animated"
emails.....
If you are so set on that sort of rubbish, use Incredimail....

This has been removed from Outlook 2007 for security reasons which is quite correct on the part of MS Office

LMAO! Gordee..

First of all "you guess"... LOL Secondly, you should get a hold of your
ignorance and stick it back in your pocket. It's not nice to flaunt such
characteristics. So now that we have addressed the most important issue,
where are you getting your so called statistics from? Did you send out a
pole to figure out if you were among the majority "as u put it" of users who
don't want animated gifs? Thirdly, I guess you also sent out a pole to the
greater percentage of Corps in America to derive at your last stupid
comment.. LOL How in the H would you know if Corps do or don't want it in
their environment? Just to touch on the very surface to show you how
ignorant your comment is, what about all the different facids of marketing
busineses? start there why dont ya...

Do us all a favor and keep you ignorance in check next time you post.

Hi Peter.. to your comment.. They may very well be a security risk now, but
wouldn't you think those security issues could be addressed as they do other
vulnerabilities....

<sigh> - I'm a SYSTEMS ACCOUNTANT. If you don't know what that is, look it
up. I'm far from ignorant about corporate deployments of MS Office. If you
think about it - and I'm sure you are capable of rational thought - of
COURSE the vast majority of Office deployments are in corporate
environments - that's one of the reasons why MS strenuously refuses to
include a Newsreading capability in Outlook....because corporate
environments usually don't allow newsreading. Perhaps you should get out
into the real world and leave your "Telly Tubbies" fantasy where it
belongs - at home.

WOW! LOL.. So defensive aren't we.. No need to get your feathers ruffled
there youngster.. you chose that profession, not I. I can only aspire such..
:). My previous comments were directed at the ignornace of your posting,
not you as an individual and my comments still stand sir. I wasn't attacking
your person in any, but instead your comments and how careless and illogical
they are. Good thing about America.. " It's your right as an American to
make the wrong decision" which you've clearly indicated in your last post.

BTW - I'm a systems engineer in the telecom field and can only aspire to be
in such an elevated position as you are sir... Best of luck to you..

Then I suggest that you don't make spurious personal attacks on people whom
you know nothing about...and I'm in the UK not USA....My comments were
anything BUT careless and illogical. How is a statement that the majority of
Office installations occur in corporate environments and that in those
environments "animated" emails are not tolerated "illogical and careless"?

Ben M. Schorr - MVP (OneNote)

Well, count me in the camp of people who do NOT want animated e-mails
and considering how many of my clients have asked me to tighten down the
HTML mail in their orgs in previous versions of Outlook I would say that
Gordon's assessment is probably pretty accurate. It's really only home
users and kiddies who really want animated e-mails.

Corporate folk, especially corporate IT folk, are by and large glad to
see animated GIFs in e-mail go the way of Clippy.

I have never yet have a corporate IT person tell me "Gee, I really wish
they'd put animated GIFs back in." It's only soccer moms who think
they're cute who express that opinion to me.

Is that a statistically conclusive sample? No. But it's enough
anecdotal evidence for me to stand by Gordon's assessment on this one.

Best wishes and aloha,
