Microsoft Office 2003

Trish

My boyfriend & I both have XP Home Edition on our computers.
He has Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 on his desk top and I have
Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003
(which includes PowerPoint) on my laptop which I am licensed
to use on two other computers in the household.
Is it necessary to uninstall the Basic Edition from his
machine or can we install my edition on top of it?

On top of.
Why not just try it?

What was wrong with the 8 (or so) responses that you received last
time you posted this?

There's an upgrade option when you insert the CD. Due an 'on top of'.

With respect, only one of those responses replied to my posting Alan.

I replied to Shenan as follows:
"My sincere apologies for multi-posting but as you may have gathered,
I am rather a novice and I did not know which group to post to and to
be honest I still do not know which group I should have posted to.
However, thank you very much for your reply and advice Shenan as your
help is much appreciated.
Trish"

Thank you Drew for your helpful reply too.
I can only apologise again to the groups for being a learner.

Wassamatter, you didn't like the answers you got yesterday?

Please don't post the same query multiple times in quick succession.
(Also it would hepp if you posted to a more appropriate newsgroup,
microsoft.public.office.setup for instance.)

Why ask here? It would be better to ask in a group with OFFICE in the
title, don't you think?

Alan, my most sincere apologies to you and everybody else who I
have upset.
I did not see the very helpful replies referred to from so many
people, who incidentally I want to thank, until you sent me this URL.

I still do not know why I could not see the thread in my newsreader
before but it is no doubt due to me having the wrong settings
somewhere.
I hope to get better and I won't multipost again.

Hi Trish.
Not a problem. You didn't upset me.

To get all the threads......
You might want to access the MS groups direct using
msnews.microsoft.com instead of using the news feed from another news
server.
I can supply details of how you could do that in the Agent 1.93 you
are using if you don't want to upgrade it to the latest Agent 3.x

Hi Alan
Thank you very much. I would appreciate that.
However, I am very happy to upgrade to Agent 3 too if you think that
makes sense as generally I find it a very good newsreader. Any faults
lie with me.
As you will gather, I am well out of my depth here and any advice
would be extremely valuable. I have only been aware of these XP/Office
newsgroups for a few days.
I thought I had sent this message yesterday but as it has not appeared
I obviously messed up on that too!

Hi Trish

You sent it, but to my email address, not to this newsgroup.
This was my reply:

See if theses ancient notes of mine help:
Adding a news server to Forte Agent.

(Version 0.x.... 2.x)

The basic concepts are at
Help | Multi-user
-------
In essence, you create another folder.
e.g. to set up "msnews.microsoft.com" to access the MS server, I did
the following:

My agent.exe is in C:\VISION\Agent\agent.exe

I just created a subfolder C:\VISION\Agent\Agent-1
In this folder, I created a shortcut to C:\VISION\Agent\agent.exe

I did a rightclick on that shortcut, selected "Properties", then the
Shortcut tab and set the "Start in" to C:\VISION\Agent\Agent-1
I created a shortcut to that shortcut where I could access it.

I launched that shortcut and went to Options-User and System Profile
In the System tab, I set "msnews.microsoft.com" as the News Server.
---------
A hint from Jim Bradley....
If you want to jumpstart the configuration in the 'new' instance with
settings from the 'data' instance, copy the AGENT.INI and GRPPROPS.DAT
files (at a minimum). Either way, just enter the desired server name
in the 'new' instance and it is ready to go.

I now use Agent 3.2 which handles multiple servers in the one
instance, but
I personally found the old way just as easy to use.

No idea how I managed to do that!!
Many thanks for Alan.
I will study carefully and see how I get on!
You are very kind and patient.
