Microsoft NX6000 Webcam not working on Vista

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get the NX6000 working on Vista, I've
downloaded and installed the LifeCam 1.3 software for Vista, I've applied
the KB925528 update but I still don't get the device to work correctly.

I've been able to see the camera image using the LifeCam software once but
since then all I get is the following error message:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Assertion failed!

Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft LifeCam\LifeCam.exe
File: .\NX6000CameraImpl.cpp
Line: 864

Expression: currentPos <= maxRange

For information on how your program can cause an assertion
failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts

(Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled)
---------------------------
Abort Retry Ignore
---------------------------

Considering this is a Microsoft device it is **extremely** irritating that
this device does not work on Vista, does anyone from Microsoft care to
comment please as I have just forked out £80 for this webcam and cannot get
it to work.

Cheers,

ripster

Identical problem here too. Installed version 1.3 on Dell Optiplex and
Toshiba M4 Tablet both running Vista Enterprise with same result. I did
notice that if I use an application like "Skype" (not endorsing this
product), the NX6000 doesn't crash. It's only when I use it with Windows
Live Messenger or the LifeCam application directly that it seems to
consistently crash - which the forces me to either disconnect and connect the
camera or even sometimes reboot the PC.
