Being that we have chosen to live in the country where broadband is
unheard of, I have to download M$ updates onto my laptop each time
they come up at the office and take them home to install on the
desktops. I also get to keep an actual copy of each update for times
when I do restoration and don’t have to go through the whole mess of
gig after gig of update downloads imposed on a fresh
install/restoration. This usually works fine by just downloading the
KBxxxxxx update files from the M$ download center by searching on the
KB number. However, this last batch had:

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019)

And a search on the M$ download center for KB829019 shows no file
available for download.

Anyone know where I can get this monster sized update file.

And yes, we do need .NET Framework or I wouldn’t even be bothering
with this.

Regards,
Ed

Keep in mind that from the Windows Update page you can click on
"Use Adminstrative Options" in the left hand column to access
any available update. Simply click on "Windows Update Catalog"
on the next page. This will launch the following web site:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Click on "Find updates for Windows operating systems". Next,
select the next to last entry in the "Operating System" box,
Windows XP SP2. Hit the Search button. You can look through
"Critical Updates and Service Packs" as well as "Recommended
Updates". The updates can be sorted by date so you can view the
most recent additions. Add whatever updates you want to the
Download basket. This will allow you to download multiple
updates to the same location on your laptop in one step.

Good luck

select the next to last entry in the "Operating System" box,
Windows XP SP2.

I had gone to the Administrative area before trying this but always
got a page with no (zero) updates listed. But then I was looking for
them under "Windows XP Home SP2" since I am running Windows XP Home
SP2 instead of just plane old "Windows XP SP2" as you suggested. I
guess I need to start thinking like M$ instead of with common sense
such as if I am running Windows XP Home SP2, then [Don't] look under
Windows XP Home SP2 for the information.

Does this mean that if I am looking for these updates for my Windows
XP Pro SP2 systems then [DON'T] look under Windows XP Pro SP2 for the
information but instead, look under the same generic Windows XP SP2
for the information that I looked under for information on updates for
Windows XP Home SP2?

Anyway, thanks for guiding me to the area for the file I needed.

You're welcome. Glad to hear that was the file you were looking
for.
