i recently got a new aser aspire laptop which has windows vista basic. i
have connected to the internet etc but whe i downloaded windows live
messenger an error message pops up saying 'windows messenger has stoped
working. a problem caused thi program to stop working corectly. windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available' then it just
closes. i have tried to download it again but the same thing happens. does
any one know if there is an easy solution that can fix this? also when it
closes a litle pop up message appears and says data excuation prevention has
closed messenger. can this be the problem?

You have Vista Basic and asking a question in WIN XP about messenger?
Search in that web interface discussion group for a more relevant group.
Also, you do not mention what version of WLM you have which does not help.

Make sure u have downloaded the Live messenger for vista platform and not
for windowsxp.DEP is available both in windows xp and vista.DEP prevents
applications and programs to execute malicious code from non executable
memory region.More information here
