When the laser mouse is hooked up it prevents the screensaver from working. I
have searched Microsofts sites but I couldn't find any info.

Try turning the mouse upside down.

Make sure the mouse is not placed on a reflective surface.
Using a black or gray mouse pad would be best.

Actually for a Laser Mouse, I've found that light colored pads seem
to work best. A good choice is a White WowPad from a company
called MicroThin.

I got through to Microsoft's tech support and they could not solve the
problem so I sent it back to them for a refund (still waiting for that). I
bought a Logitech Laser Mouse and it works fine.
