microsoft installer looping

All,

Every time I boot my pc Microsoft installer starts and tries to install a
piece of software update I don't have from a non existent location.
Every time I hit cancel it loops and tries again.
I think this is due to a failed internet based update for sonic software.
I'm trying there site but have seen a similar problem with installer here
before, I think, and I'm hoping somebody can tell me how to stop installer
being called to load this update.

running xp home

Try installing the latest Windows Instaler from

just tried and it said the version I have is newer or the same and therefore
didn't download

is there a way of clearing the queue that installer has for reboot?
