Using Windows XP Home Edition with Norton Firewall. Several times a week I
get a pop-up from Norton that states "A remote system is attempting to
access Microsoft Generic Host Process for Win32 Services on you computer" .
What is this all about?

Probably one of the many worms out there trying to infect your PC. I'm
not familiar with Norton Firewall but software firewalls I have used
will allow you to create a rule to automeatically block such things
without your intervention.

Greetings --

Your firewall is warning you that someone is trying to connect to
your computer from outside. This is why you have a firewall: to
prevent such exploits.

The Generic host process (svchost) is used to support a slew of services
on behalf of the system. Some of these legitimately want to access
*out* to the Internet. I have never met a case where something
legitimately wanted to come *in* to connect to it and I would tell
Norton to always refuse.
