Microsoft E-mail

Bob Dobson

Hello - I've been following this news group for a few weeks now and noticed
replies about Microsoft not sending e-mails about patches. However, I
received just such a notice that looks very official with all the company
logos at the top and bottom of the page with the body of the message
saying -
MS customer
this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003,
Cumulative Patch" update which eliminates all known vulnerabilities
affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook Express as well as three newly
discovered vulnerabilities. Install now to continue keeping your computer
secure. This update includes the functionality of all previously released
patches.

It then goes on to list the following items in an enclosed box with a
question mark before each item:

System Requirements
This update applies to
Recommendation
How to install
How to use

It also names Microsoft Support Services and Knowledge Base articles can be
found on the Microsoft Technical Support web site.

Then it thanks me for using Microsoft products.

It also says at the bottom in small print - Please do not reply to this
message. It was sent from an unmonitored e-mail address and we are unable to
respond to any replies.

Contact Us Legal TRUSTe

Then the Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Terms of Use.

Should I pitch this or report this to Microsoft?

There is a paper clip on the corner of the attachment which I will not click
on. I think I'll delete this e-mail after I hear from someone of you out
there.

Thanks for listening. Bob

Hi Bob,

This is not from Microsoft. Never download any "so called" security patches
from email.
