microsoft defender wont install

ive formated me hd and tried to install the new defender and it wont install
it stays at 0% till i turn me laptop off
 
Turn off real-time protection in your antivirus application for the duration
of the install. If that takes care of it, please write back with the vendor
and version involved.
 
Have you had any problems downloading or installing updates for Windows from
Microsoft update?
 
Have you applied all critical updates, including SP2, and Windows Installer
3.1?
