I have auto updates turned on, when I download the Microsoft anti-spyware
program of the month, how do you run it and where is it?

Updates are additional definitions that help Microsoft AntiSpyware find,
detect and prevent new spyware from invading your PC. Updates are not
separate applications and they are not released at any set time, to stay
updated, ensure that automatic updates are turned on, you can also manually
update Microsoft AntiSpyware yourself, by clicking Start > All Programs or
Programs (depending on the version of Windows installed), Microsoft
AntiSpyware > Microsoft AntiSpyware Update.

Also, remember that you are using a BETA version of Microsoft AntiSpyware
and at certain times, new development builds of the software are released
for testing according to Microsofts suitability.

I have it turned on (Using Windows XP SP2) it says it downloaded Microsoft
antispyware, but I can't find it anywhere and nothing seems to have scanned
or did anything. I also have Windows firewall turned on, run adaware, spybot,
& spywareblaster.

Ok, you downloaded Microsoft AntiSpyware, but you don't know where on your
computer? Because, you can't stream the installation, you have download the
software executable to a location on your computer, navigate to that
location and launch the Microsoft AntiSpyware executable and follow the
installation wizard to install the software.

I am a bit confused by your post by the way. You are confusing downloads
with updates, bah!

Maybe it's confusing because I am confused abuout how to install and find the
program. It was listed on my "critical updates" so I downloaded it, but
nothing happend. It has never ran as far as I know. I don't know where to
find it to install it. That is why I am asking. Sorry but I am not that
computer literate about all this stuff. I am trying to learn. Thank you for
any help you can give me. And sorry for the confusion. I just happend upon
this site by reading on the XP forum, didn't know this was here.

You are mixing apples and oranges here:

The monthly security updates include the Malicious Software Removal
tool--home page here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

This is an extremely important tool--it is making a measurable effect on
some really nasty infections.

It isn't at all the same thing as Microsoft Antispyware, however, which is
found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

The Malicious Software Removal tool, when downloaded as part of the monthly
security updates, executes and then removes itself--i.e. it doesn't leave
code behind. It does leave a log file which you can look at:

\windows\debug\mrt.log (or \winnt\debug\mrt.log, perhaps)

to show when it has been run and what the results are. If your machine is
clean, you don't see any UI from this tool except for the license agreement.

Don't feel bad about it--this is actually a very common mistake--we see it a
few times a month here.
