Anti-Rookits

If there was ever an anti-spyware area where I wish Microsoft would protect
me, it would be keeping rootkits off my computer. I use Zone Alarm's
Security Suite plus a number of free anti-spyware tools, The Microsoft
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and Defender as my main line of
defense. My Zone Alarm anti-spyware defense includes some Kaspersky rootkit
scanning. What does Microsoft recommend on rootkits? Do any of you run
Icesword or Gmer? What does Microsoft recommend to prevent global hooking?

A number of rootkit families are targetted by the Malicious Software Removal
Tool, which is cumulative, and revised monthly, and normally runs as a part
of Microsoft's security patches on the second Tuesday of each month.

This is definitely high on the list of things that Microsoft would like to
protect you against, and their antivirus products are also updated regularly
as new threats of this kind arise.

GMER is a good tool and is the only one I know of that can detect the new
MBR
rootkit.
Doesn't Zone Alarm Internet Security provide any protections against
hooking?
Not that I am aware of, but maybe....

GMER will be on my machine in an hour or two. It looked good on my first
quick review. Thanks.
