Microsoft Anti-spyware installation problem

Karen

In order to install a program called 'bearshare', I was
required to install 'Windows XP Service Pack 2', and when
I went to do that, 3 steps were listed, the second step
being the download and installation of Microsoft Anti-
Spyware . When prompted, I clicked on 'Save', and began
the download. Then, when the download was complete, and
when prompted again, I clicked on 'Run'. I then received
the message, "Error reading setup initialization file".
What should I do? I've attempted this 4 times, and each
time brought the same results. Can anyone give me some
advice? Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I'm afraid
I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks again.
Sincerely, Karen

Hi

Bearshare is a p2p program which also installs spyware.

Did you get your Bearshare version from here ?

http://www.bearshare.com

If we look at Bearshares helpfile we one Ad supported
version and one Proversion.

http://www.bearshare.com/help/install.htm

That you was prompted to install SP2 and MSAS is good
but were did you download this ?

These patches/programs must be downloaded from Microsoft,
and this is a good start point.

Try to download MS Antispyware program following links
from this page. You also have other good advices within
this page.

When you use a p2p program it´s really important to have
a protected PC, p2p networks are messed with malicious
software and you must be sure that you have done
everything to protect your PC.

1. Firewall, comes with SP2

2. Windowsupdate, automatic with SP2.

3. Antivirusprogram, updated.

4. Antispywareprogram.

Happy computing ;)

Karen,

Try "saving" the download to My Documents or some folder
therein, and then once it's in there, double click onto
it to install. Or, you can click "Open" on the download,
instead of "Save." Forget the "Run." Good luck!

Don't try to run it from the internet. Right click on the
dowload, select "save as" and save it to your hard disk.
When the download is complete, run it from your hard drive.
