microphone not working

I have bought a creative webcam and microphone .The microphone does not work
..I have had two previous microphones on this computer that worked then,
stopped working. Thought once I set up the new webcam we would be able to use
the microphone .
When I check my microphone I get error 0x80004005?
I am also running Nvidia(R) n force(TM) .

Do i need to disable other settings,drivers?
