Word is a commercial product: you have to buy it.

Once you do that, you should get SpellCheck and Thesaurus as part of your
installation.

I have windows XP home edition is there any where I can down load a copy of
Word or a Spellchecker/Thesauras for normal every day letters.?

No. Word is not a free program; you must purchase it. It is part of
the Microsoft Office suite, or you can purchase it separately at any
software dealer.

You may want to consider Microsoft Works as a simpler and cheaper
alternative.

Please note that the newsgroup "microsoft.public.access" is a
technical support newsgroup for the database program Microsoft Access,
not a general computer help desk.

No.
You can buy a sndalone version or as part of Office as mentioned.
However to get the most bang from your buck buy a copy of Microsoft Works.
It has contained Word as it's word processor for a few years now and has
other programs that are nice as well..
