Miccrosoft Word problems

My Word program which waws loaded onto computer with
Windows 2000 package has problems. One of two things
happens when I (re)open an already created file.
1) I get the message "Do you want to revert to the
saved "filename opening"?
2) "file name" is being used. Do you want to make a copy?
I can't figure out the common element when one or the
other happens, however if I have my Microsoft Word program
is open, I don't get these messages.
Any ideas why this is happening?
