I run xp-pro and have a 120GB usb HDD partitioned into 2 54GB partitions-H & J.
on partition H i have 16GB of free space but the Master File Table is at 99%.
MFT is over 106MB. I have over 106,000 files on that partition.
Question- what happens when the MFT reaches 100%.
Does it start to over write the earlierest entries, or does it not let me use
the remaining 16GB of available space or what??? Is this something I should be
worried about??
Microsoft won't help. I bought this xp cd from ebay and microsoft says the oem
has to help me.Thats BS.
I can't find any reference to this situation anywhere and several "computer
geeks" i know say they have never heard of this B4.
Anyone with any idea???
please forward the response(s) to "bullard (e-mail address removed)". and remember
remove the nospam part and shove everything else together.
ThankYou
Regards
Dan.

A Goggle seach of "MFT full XP" provided a few infomative hits that all siad
that the MFT would grow as needed. However, it also provided many hits that
warned about the potential for slower performance if the MFT became
fragmented.

As for lack of Miscrosoft support, that is always part of the deal when you
buy an OEM copy of the software. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. A
reason it is cheaper than the non-OEM verision is that the OEM takes
responsibility for handling user complaints. So, ask whomever made the
computer for you for help, not Microsoft. Now that you know, the next time
you will be able to better judge the tradeoff between initial price for
future support. (By the way, I have noticed that few places that sell OEM
software and/or OEM hardware make it clear that you are getting less than if
you had bought the full retail product. They don't exactly lie, but they
don't exactly tell the whole truth either.)
