Messenger Plus install threat

Barry

When I start my computer Microsoft Anti Spyware keeps
sending me a message telling me that Messenger Plus is
tring to install.
I have even ticked the ignore this threat box.
I have also run the remove.
I am certain there is no spyware or virus on the computer.
Any advice please.

Hi

- Download CCleaner and remove all temporarily junk. www.ccleaner.com

- Check Control panel > add/remove programs if Messenger plus still is
present, uninstall, also check for other unknown apps, also uninstall.

- Check if you have latest MSAS definitions 5743, menu File > "check
for updates"

- Restart in safe mode, press F8 during reboot just before windows flag
screen appears.

- Choose "Full scan" with all options checked.

- Can also be a good advice to also use Lavasofts Adaware.

But there is with Messenger Plus unless you're very careful not to let it
install the spyware it offers to install. Even then I'm not sure of it.

Messenger Plus includes an optional Sponsor Program
provided by C2Media which is LOP but it can easily be
overlooked when installing. Here's a screenshot to show
what I mean

http://andymanchesta.com/MSAS/MP3.54.jpg

If you didnt accept the sponsor program then LOP will not
be loaded on your system but it may still get flagged by
MSAS because of the usage data and thier connection to
C2Media

Here's a support page from them about just removing the
sponsor part which they say is now possible with the
latest release

http://www.msghelp.net/showthread.php?tid=21598

The LOP part didnt used to kick in to 36 hours after the
MessengerPlus download which is abit unfair to users as
they then might not connect the Adware, searchbars and IE
Homepage changes to Messenger Plus3 also it only starts
sending usage information out after a week as this is
turned on by default when you install it but it can be
changed in the settings.

Hi Barry,
Messenger Plus itself doesn't have spyware. It comes with spyware tho, and
it makes me queasy enough to not allow it on my machines.

Messenger Plus is not part of microsoft, it's a add-on,
so spyware might be included on it since it's free.

Suggestions: to me security is a high priority, so
security always comes first.
