There is a prompt which appears on my screen to do with a
patch for my messenger.
I have gone onto web site - but does not tell me what to
do after that. Any ideas?

You don't give us enough information to get an answer, but from your
vague description I'm going to guess that you are getting spam through
the messenger service hole. It's a good thing you *didn't* do anything
when you got to the spammer's site. You need to 1) turn off the
messenger service (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services); 2)
have a firewall running; 3) get some education about computers and the
Internet or you're going to click on the wrong thing some day and wind
up giving all your financial information to thieves. Sorry to sound
harsh, but this is a reality and you need to know how to protect
yourself. If this isn't something you can do, call a good local
computer repair person to come and give you some lessons. Also, there
are lots of good books available - the "Dummies" series is excellent,
even though they have that unfortunate name.

Good luck,

Malke

Malke,
I followed you instructions for stopping Messenger. I went to Control
Panel>Administrative Tools>Services); I then hit the blue stop. It looked
like it was working as a real small box with a blue gauge running. Yet When
I reboot Messenger is again running. I do use Zone Alarm and when the queue
comes up asking if I want Messenger to run I says "NO" Is there any way to
try it of permanently"

Thank you,
Ken A.
