Messenger logs in/out when logging in/out VPN

Hi,

I'm using MSN Messenger 6.1. I have a cable connection with a small home
LAN. When I log into my computer, MSN Messenger automatically logs in
through my LAN. When I log into my company's VPN, MSN Messenger
automatically logs out and I have to login through the VPN. Likewise, when
I logout of the VPN, MSN Messenger automatically logs out and I have to
login through the LAN.

This didn't happen in Windows 2000. How can I stay logged in through my
LAN?

Thank you,
Don Leckie

Don,

You have to configure your VPN connection to use your local gateway and
not the remote gateway.

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP Professional. I could only find "Default gateway on
remote network". I already have this unchecked. I don't see a local
gateway. Is the local gateway implied by not having the remote gateway
checked?

Thank you,

Don,

I assume that yes, the local gateway would be the default when you
uncheck the use of the remote network's gateway. I had your very same
problem until I unchecked that option and haven't had any issue since.
Perhaps the remote gateway is still in use? What if you check your IP
settings at a command prompt once you make the VPN connection, is the
default gateway for your VPN adapter blank? If it is and you continue to
have logon/logoff issues, I'm afraid I can't help more than this.

Good luck,

Dave
