Messenger and DEP Protection

Dear WOrld,

Having just acquired my laptop with Vista installed, I successfully
installed Microsoft's Messenger program.

Unfortunately, when I try to run Messenger I get an error message that tells
me that there is a conflict between Messenge and the Data Execution
Prevention (DEP) security feature.

I have tried to disable DEP for Messenger but the system does not allow me
to do so.

I am totally reliant on Messenger to stay in contact with my many friends
and am completely at a loss to know what to do next?

Are there any suggestions for my dilemma?

Thanks,

Megan

You can turn off DEP completely using this command from an admin command
prompt

Start > cmd (hold down shift and ctrl before pressing enter)

bcdedit /set nx alwaysoff

Flash Gortdon

This option worked for me....!

Go to Control Panel.....Uninstall a Program....uninstall Windows Live
Messenger.

Go to the following link...and download an EARLIER version of Windows Live
Messenger.

Note: I think the latest version is Windows Live Messenger 8.1.0178.00 now -
but I installed Version 8 (Build 8.0.0812.00).

Install your downloaded version and hopefully yours should be OK too
