Messenger 6 resetting pic/background

I've got Messenger 6.0.0268 running on XP sp1.
Every so often messenger seems to 'lose' it's settings.
I have to keep going to 'Tools' > 'Create Backgrounds' and
'Tools' > 'Change Display Picture' to set them again.

Any idea's on what's going on?

This should only occur if we fail to shut down properly or you click 'This
is a shared computer so dont store my address book on it' under the Privacy
tab in Tools->Options. Otherwise, we should be saving that information off.
